The BuZZZ about Sleep

Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy, or OMT as it’s regularly referred to, is a therapy of exercises for the face and tongue that can improve or even eliminate causes of snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. The muscles of the tongue, throat and face can improve function and use through OMT and reduce obstruction to the airway.

OMT is painless and relatively simple. For success, consistent exercise every day is necessary until the patient has corrected their improper muscle pattern. Treatment usually consists of a regular program of exercises over a 6–12 month period. OMT is best done under supervision, and if sleep symptoms are bothersome, through a sleep medicine professional.
